The joyful atmosphere I strive for (and believe it is my responsibility, as wife and mother, to maintain) quickly goes sour if I put more focus on getting things done than on doing things together.
Truly, I think Melissa Wiley might be my hero. She never fails to inspire me.
Not much of a blog post here, especially since I’m doing the one-handed-typing-while-holding-the-baby thing. I am reading Melissa’s blog, and Alfie Kohn’s Unconditional Parenting, and just trying to get there from this awful place of yelling, punishing, threatening, shaming, impatience, and sarcasm that I’ve been in lately.

I saw the link to you post in the comments feed from Melissa’s blog. She’s a hero to me too. I just wanted to leave a comment because I’m also trying to pull myself out of a place of yelling, punishing, threatening, etc. I’ve got Alfie Kohn’s book on my list.

This is exactly what I needed to read this morning, so thanks (to both you and M.Wiley). I’ve gotten partway through Alfie Kohn’s book several times, and I clearly need to finish it. Also, I need to get off the computer and do something with the boys while the baby sleeps. Right now.
